Sometimes, it’s really all about the little things in a relationship. Yes, having all the grand gestures and momentous occasions are great – but these are not what make up the bulk of a relationship. You have to remember that a relationship is a grind; and you always need to be putting attention and energy into the minor things that make up your relationship. It’s about the simplest aspects of your love.
1. Don’t demean or disrespect your partner.
Sometimes, a lot of couples will make the mistake of being overly comfortable with each other to the point that they disrespect one another without expecting any consequences. Don’t be like that. Always respect your partner. Don’t let your partner feel like you see them as less than they are.
2. Do random acts of kindness for each other.
Always be thoughtful. Show your partner that you’re always thinking of them even when you’re not together. The more effort you put into making each other’s lives easier, the closer you’re going to become. Remember that kindness and love are always going to go hand in hand with one another.
3. Be tolerant of each other’s differences.
You aren’t always going to see eye to eye on everything – and that’s okay. That’s part of being in a relationship. The key is in being able to overcome your differences by being tolerant of each other’s unique perspectives and opinions. Conflict is inevitable, but it can always be managed and resolved. You just need to be mature and open-minded.
4. Laugh as much as possible in your relationship.
The more you laugh as a couple, the happier you will be. You always want to be propagating positive vibes in your relationship. And sharing a few laughs with one another can really go long way in doing so.
5. Always listen to each other.
Always make your partner feel heard and appreciated. Never shun them. Don’t invalidate their feelings and opinions. Let your partner know that you’re always willing to lend a willing ear to them whenever they need to get something off their chest.
6. Be mindful of your words and your actions.
Always maintain tact and poise at all times. Think about what you’re going to say before you say it. Ponder about what you’re going to do before you do it. You can’t be reckless with what you say or do. You always want to be careful to not hurt your partner.
7. Be supportive whenever your partner goes through hard times.
Your partner is always going to look for support when they’re going through hard times; and you need to be able to be your partner’s rock in those moments.
8. Show gratitude and appreciation for your partner all the time.
Never make your partner feel like you are taking them for granted. Whenever they do something nice for you, always make sure that their efforts don’t go unnoticed. Or even when there’s nothing significant going on, just let them know how thankful you are that you’re still together.
9. Swallow your pride and apologize whenever you’re wrong.
Whenever you screw up, make sure that you are apologetic about it. Don’t be too proud. Make sure that your partner knows that you are willing to put the relationship above your own ego. You should always be humble enough to recognize that you aren’t perfect; and there is always room to learn.
10. Emphasize quality over quantity when it comes to the time you spend together.
You don’t really have to be spending ALL of your time together. It’s just important that whenever you happen to be in each other’s presence, you don’t take it for granted. Always be present in the moment and pay attention. Savor every aspect of the time that you do spend together.
11. Never feel entitled in your relationship.
You aren’t entitled to anything in your relationship. You earn everything. And that’s why you need to be constantly putting in the effort. You always need to be working hard to keep your relationship together; to keep your love alive.
12. Respect your partner’s boundaries and needs for privacy.
Just because you are in a relationship doesn’t mean that you have the right to invade your partner’s privacy whenever you want. You still have to be able to respect the fact that your partner is a human being with personal needs.
13. Have each other’s backs whenever necessary.
Always make your partner feel like you are there for them whenever they need you. Your partner always has to know that you are ready to pick up the slack whenever they drop the ball on something. They always need to be able to rely on you.
14. Don’t stop flirting with your partner.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that it’s okay for you to slack off in your relationship. Don’t think that you bagged your partner and it’s okay for you to relax. That’s not how it works. You should always be making your partner feel like you’re willing to work hard for their affection and attention.
