The former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo and former military head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida are two prom inent former leaders who may endorsed two of top PDP politicians as presidential and vice- presidential candidates of the in the forthcoming 2023 general election. Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida has both served as Nigerian head of State, and Obasanjo also served as democratically elclected President, and they must have acquired the needed experience to aid them in endorsing certain politicians that will be representing the interest of the party come to the 2023 general election.
There are issues that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members need to solve before the incoming presidential election, before the opposition party can outsmart the ruling party. Firstly, the party has to settle all the internal crises among the top strong politicos in the party. Presently, the party is yet to resolve the issue of Prince Uche Secondus who still sees himself as the chairman of the party even when he has been warned not to claim the position anymore.
Another issue that the members of the party need to solve after the internal crises among the party members, is the nomination of the party’ s flag bearers. The people that will be representing the interest of the party in the upcoming presidential election, need to be carefully selected by the party. As a politician who has served in the top leadership of the country, former President Olusegun and Ibrahim Babangida will be able to endorse the right and qualified people for the PDP ahead of 2023.
Dr. Bukola Saraki of Kwara State is one among the persons that Olusegun Obasanjo and IBB may endorse as the presidential candidate of the party. Saraki is the immediate former senate president of the national assembly. When it comes to national elections, he has gained multiple national recognition. Bukola Saraki worked under the government of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and he is also interested in emerging as the flag bearer of the PDP.
In the last presidential election, Bukola Saraki contested against Atiku Abubakar and Aminu Tambuwal from Sokoto State. However, he lost in the party’ s primary to Atiku Abubakar as faith would have it. Bukola Saraki has served as governor of Kwara State, and he served as the senate president of the national assembly. He will want to proceed in his political career, and he may likely be victorious if he gets endorsed by Olusegun Obasanjo.
Talking about the position of vice president, Olusegun Obasanjo can endorse Peter Obi from Anambra State. Peter Obi had participated actively in the electioneering processes in the last presidential election. He contested alongside Atiku Abubakar as his running mate, and he rendered full support for the northerner in the 2019 general election. However, the two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost the election, Peter Obi’ s activities cannot be overemphasized. Both Bukola Saraki and Peter Obi should be endorsed by Obasanjo as the president and vice president respectively.
