Ahead of 2023 general elections, the All Progressives Congress, APC in Benue state has witnessed a shortfall as many prominent politicians joined Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Before an election could be won in any state, a political party must have a larger percentage of voters. One of the reasons why APC may loose in Benue was because many top politicians in the state have declared their support for the governor.
These prominent politicians on Monday, dumped APC and led many people to join PDP. Among those that joined PDP include Architect Joseph Kyaagba, Chief Joe Akaakar, the Baba Jiro of Egbaland as well as Barrister Michael Gwaza, ACP John Actsu and thousands of their supporters.
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom’ s received the defectors at the Central Primary School Township, Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state.
While speaking at the political gathering, Ortom expressed his satisfaction and assured the new PDP members of equal opportunities in the party.
He said he is optimistic that PDP will take over leadership of the country after the 2023 general election, adding that the people could now differentiate between the two parties.
The Governor accused the ruling party of inflicting hunger and hardship on Nigerians, saying that the current administration has done what others never did for the country since inception. He stated that many people are serious experiencing hardship and willing for a change of government.
The defectors were warmly received by the State Chairman of the PDP, Sir John Ngbe de and handed them over to Governor Ortom. The governor presented the party’ s flags to leaders of the defectors drawn from the APC and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA respectively.
Ortom said that those that just joined the party would team up with him and other leaders to ensure justice, equity and fairness for all Nigerians.
