All seems set for a South- South and Northern agreement to produce a President of Southern extraction in the forthcoming 2023 Nigerian general elections.
The main agenda of the partnership is to arrange for a successful return of a Jonathan presidency in the next political dispensation.
Political leaders of the two regions seem to be making covert moves to draft Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan into the presidential race.
According to reports the group comprising of Political leaders from both South- South and the Northern region have concluded plans on how to make a Jonathan candidature, one to beat.
Over the weekend, the leaders met in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where they had their first public meeting.
In February, this year, there were reports that four governor from the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), from the Northern region were making contacts and doing the necessary political calculations on how to field Goodluck Jonathan in the 2023 Presidential elections.
The report also alleged that a group of 10 notable heavyweight politicians from the South- South were slated to to commence campaign towards meeting their goal.
According to the plot, politicians would at first anchor their arguments on the fact that there is a need for the South- South region to complete their turn in the nation’ s presidency.
Attendants at the Uyo meeting over the weekend included Dr. Uwamose Amadasun, Barr. Oyemah- Iwe Jahswill, Mr. Okon It, Major A. Oputa (Rtd), Dr. Didi Opiuyo and Chief Dikivie Ikiogha, the Chairman of Proteam.
Notable amongst them is a famous political friend of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Dikivie Ikiogha.
After its meeting, the group urged all political groups across the country to work toward the actualization of a President of South- South extraction.
The group also enjoined all political leaders of the South- South region to ignore the temptation of any party offering them the slot of the Vice President as that may cripple the plan of the region to produce the next President of Nigeria.
They jointly signed a communique in which they appealed to all tribes in Nigeria to work towards producing a President from the South- South.
The communique reads in part: “The group will reach out to and engage all the states of the federation as well as ethnic nationalities, to look into this project. ”
