Sir Edwin Clark, A National Leader of the Ijaw ethnic group, has disclosed the rationale behind the muteness of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State and his allies on restructuring.
Edwin Clark said that Tinubu is scared to speak up about restructuring because of his 2023 presidential ambition.
He made this known in the course of a news conference he held in Abuja on Wednesday.
The APC National Leader is yet to make official his interest to contest for presidency in 2023, though his political friends have started campaigning for him.
The words of Edwin Clark read: ” What several Nigerians want is the restructuring of the country in order to douse the tensions and agitations which is almost tearing the country apart today. This is the main cause of the high insecurity being experienced.
” The Tinubus who brought restructuring to the manifesto of APC have not spoken about it, because they fear that if they do, they will not be allowed to contest for the presidency of the country, come 2023, ” Clark said.
” We want to reiterate that we are more patriotic than those who do not believe in restructuring of Nigeria, even though we are very well pleased to shame them, because majority of other Nigerians also believe in the restructuring of the country. We, however, wish to advise those minority to follow us, the majority, as we mean well for the country. ”
The call for restructuring has continued to grow as a better option than total disintegration.
But the Northern Nigeria appears not to feel at home with the idea of restructuring. From all indications, many of those canvassing for restructuring are referring to the regional government which the country has practised previously.
