Five Yahoo Boys who are living in an apartment where they pay N8 million as annual rent were among 13 internet fraudsters arrested on Thursday, March 11, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The 13 young men were arrested in their various areas of abode in Abuja following intelligence reports about their fraudulent activities received by officials of the Abuja zone of the anti graft commission.
It was gathered that while five of the internet fraudsters were arreates at an N8 million rent a year apartment in Gilmore Estate, Jahi, the other eight were arrested at Katampe Extension, all in Abuja.
According to a statement by the EFCC on its Twitter handle @officialEFCC on Thursday, during their arrest, items recovered from them included iPhones, laptops, gaming consoles, one Toyota Avalon and a Lexus SUV.
The statement added that they had given useful information about their activities to the officials of the commission and would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
According to the statement: “Luck ran out on 13 cybercrime suspects popularly known as Yahoo Boys on Thursday, March 11, when operatives of the Abuja Zonal Office of the EFCC raided their hideouts early in the morning and apprehended them.
“Five of the suspects were picked up at an N8 million rent a year apartment in Gilmore Estate, Jahi, while the other eight were arrested at Katampe Extension, all in Abuja.
“The breakthrough followed actionable intelligence on their alleged criminal activities.
“During their arrest, items recovered from them included iPhones, laptops, gaming consoles, one Toyota Avalon and a Lexus SUV.
“The suspects have given valuable information and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
