Economic and Financial Crimes Commission agents detained 56 suspected fraudsters during a sting operation at the Ogun State Government’ s hotel, the Mitros Residences Annex, and two other hotels in Abeokuta.
According to Punch Newspaper, the suspects were reportedly apprehended by EFCC operatives who broke into the Mitros Residences Annex, Ceilia Suites, and another location.
Mitros Residences Annex, a 59- room hotel, was built by the previous governor Ibikunle Amosun and was taken over by Dapo Abiodun’ s government.
According to reports, EFCC operatives broke into the hotels around 4 a. m. on Monday and arrested several lodgers suspected of being Internet fraudsters.
On Monday, when our journalist paid a visit to the government- owned hotel, he witnessed the few surviving lodgers, particularly ladies, and some workers congregating to discuss the sting operation.
Apart from the smashed hotel doors, several broken plates were also discovered on the hotel grounds.
According to a worker, several of the suspected fraudsters evaded arrest, while others were snatched away by the operators.
According to a woman who claimed to have been in one of the rooms during the sting operation, armed EFCC operatives removed approximately six phones from the room in which she was staying with her partner.
The lady, on the other hand, stated that her partner evaded arrest, but his cars and other property were taken by EFCC agents.
” We did not hear anything; it was only after they turned off the generator that we realized there was an issue, particularly when we heard someone cry. ”
Our room was robbed of approximately six phones. These individuals are robbers; they broke into various apartments in the middle of the night. My companion escaped, but his vehicle was seized. ”
Mr. Tokunbo Odeniyi, Head of Public Affairs at the EFCC’ s Ibadan office, confirmed the occurrence when contacted.
” Yes, it is true; the EFFC arrested several fraudsters in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, ” Odeniyi stated.
They were apprehended in three different locations, so I’ m unable to say how many were apprehended at Mitros.
In three different hotels in Abeokuta, 56 alleged Internet fraudsters were apprehended.
