It is pertinent for the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere to tender an apology to Muslims over their derogatory statement on Prophet Muhammed (SAW). This is to quell the rising tension it has generated already on social media, politics, and religious spheres.
The statement released on Sunday by the group through its National Publicity Secretary, Ajayi, has been described by the Muslim communities as derogatory to the Prophet Muhammed (SAW).
Mr. Ajayi compared Sunday Igboho to the Prophet Mohammed(SAW) when analyzing Igboho’s decision to seek asylum outside the country.
The statement said that the leader of the Yoruba Nation agitators is right to seek asylum anywhere outside the nation. He added that Prophet Mohammed also fled Mecca to Medina to avoid persecution.
The statement did not go well with the Muslims in the country. It has raised criticism, cautions, and condemnation from groups and individuals who call for the retraction or apology from Afenifere.
To calm the rising tension generated by the statement, it is appropriate for Afenifere to tender a sincere apology to the Muslims.
Sowore Omoyele, the founder of SaharaReporters, has issued his apologies for reporting the statement as released by Afenifere.
Sowore, on Monday 26th July released an apology to those who felt hurt through the report by SaharaReporters captioned, ‘Igboho Is Like Prophet Muhammed Who Fled Mecca For Medina Oer Persecution – Afenifere’.
