Governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party platform said they are now working together to ensure that the opposition party presents a united front in the general elections in 2023.
The chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, said this on Wednesday night, September 8, during the forum’ s meeting in Abuja, according to Premium Times.
Governor Tambuwal described the closed- door meeting on the party’ s upcoming national convention, which began at 3 p. m. and lasted approximately seven hours, as ” extremely fruitful. ”
In his words:
” We have been meeting since 3 pm, meeting for about seven hours. Very fruitful deliberation.
” You must have seen that we received leaders of our party in various other states where we don’ t have governors.
” We had a robust discussion with them on how to move the party forward, bringing all the leaders together, not only working towards a best national convention but even beyond that. ”
THE NEED TO SUSTAIN PDP’ S GOODWILL
The roundtable also discussed how to maintain the goodwill that the PDP currently enjoys and give the correct signal to Nigerians that the party is poised to ” rescue Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC, ” according to Governor Tambuwal.
” We also had in our meeting our candidate in Anambra governorship election, where we received a briefing from him on how prepared our party is in Anambra and to confirm to you and Nigerians that all of us are united in supporting our party in Anambra.
” By the grace of God, we shall work assiduously towards winning the Anambra election.
” Also, we have discussed the forthcoming convention and you will hear from NEC, September 9 on what the position is going to be. ”
The party’ s National Executive Committee is expected to make major decisions about the zoning of party offices.
PDP ELDERS MEET GOVERNOR WIKE
In a similar event, members of the PDP reconciliation committee, led by David Mark, a former Senate President, recently paid a visit to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
On Tuesday, August 31, Mark and seven other members of the committee met with Governor Wike for around three and a half hours to discuss the party’ s crisis.
The committee proposed a three- point agenda, including requesting that Wike persuade Rivers PDP members to drop the court challenge that resulted in Secondus’ suspension as national chairman.
According to reports by LegitNg, a top source said the panel ” is determined to find a lasting solution to the crisis at hand. The job is easier because the two gladiators are from Rivers state and have the same political family. ”
The group has been entrusted with reaching out to those PDP elders, like former Governor Peter Odili, to whom both Wike and Secondus still defer. With Wike’ s grip on the PDP in Rivers State, no member of the party can take Secondus to court without Wike’ s knowledge.
APC I’ LL GO WITH YOU IN 2023- PDP TELLS BUHARI
According to PREMIUM TIMES, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will have no place in post- Buhari Nigeria, given Nigerians’ resolve to return the country to a path of peace, unity, and economic prosperity, which can never be achieved if a party like the APC is allowed to govern beyond 2023.
Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’ s national spokesperson, made the announcement in a statement.
President Muhammadu Buhari’ s efforts to clean up the APC in order to stay in power after his term are futile, according to the main opposition party, because Nigerians are no longer willing to put up with the APC’ s wickedness in its atrocious activities, treasury looting, and ” Janjaweed” ideology of violence, with which they have held the country hostage for the past six years.
Read the full statement below:
” Our party is informed of how desperate APC leaders, who have been indicted for treasury looting and aiding of terrorism in our country, are blackmailing President Buhari to use his media interviews to canvass the perpetuation of APC in power to shield them from prosecution at the inevitable end of his tenure in 2023.
” The PDP is already aware of how such individuals have been trying to force Mr President to commence an early campaign for the APC.
” While not excusing the personal failures of Mr President as well as the incompetence that embodies the Buhari Presidency, it is incontrovertible that the APC, as a decadent political party, founded on vices of vindictiveness, divisiveness, falsehood, fake promises, electoral manipulations, support for violence, stealing, sectional marginalization and hatred, cannot produce the desired leadership for our nation after President Buhari.
Mr Kola claimed that this is why some APC members, who should be speaking out against misrule because of their backgrounds as religious leaders, community leaders, legal luminaries, rights advocates, and moralists, have instead become entangled in the APC Bermuda Triangle of violence and corruption, where they have ignobly become apostles of falsehood, corruption, and injustice.
” Mr President should know that Nigerians are not ready to be beguiled again to further entrust the destiny of our nation in the hands of the APC, which has in the last six years, superintendent over the looting of over N25. 1 trillion from various ministries, agencies and department of government; leading to the ruining of our once robust economy. ”
2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS, VICTORY FOR APC IS A FOREGONE CONCLUSION
Meanwhile, according to the PUNCH, Governor Aminu Masari stated last Saturday, September 4, that the All Progressives Congress’ victory in the 2023 general elections is a fair conclusion.
He based his confidence on his opinion that, based on the recently held membership registration and revalidation, as well as ward and council Congresses, the party had created a solid foundation for its election participation.
Masari announced while receiving the party’ s mid- term report from the National Working Committee, which is led by Aliyu Kumo, at the Government House in Katsina.
The governor stated that the APC has done well across the country and that they will return for state congresses before holding a national conference to elect party leaders.
” We are laying a solid foundation for APC, preparing it for 2023 elections which I hope APC would win by a wide margin, because if we took the registration of members of the APC even if 70 per cent of those who registered came out to vote for APC, APC is sure of getting close to 30 million votes” .
” So we can say that success is only a short distance from us. We will be there and we will achieve it. ”
Masari stated that the APC used a consensus strategy for the recently finished ward and local government congresses held across the state’ s 34 councils and 361 political wards, based on party members’ consent.
He insisted that given the tremendous registration of APC members across the country during the party’ s recent membership registration and revalidation drive, even if only 70% of those registered came to vote in the upcoming elections in 2023, the party would be certain of receiving 30 million votes.
Kumo had earlier praised party members in the state for their unity, noting that no parallel congresses or fights had taken place anywhere in the state.
