The killer of the female Akwa Ibom job seeker told the court after his conviction that no one is doing anything about the numerous assassinations in Nigeria. Recall that a high court in Uyo state on August 4th, convicted Uduak Akpan, of killing Iniubong Umoren last year, when he lured her to a place with a fake job interview. Judge Bassey Ukanang found Mr. Akpan guilty on two counts charges bordering around murder and r*pe.

Delivering judgement, Bassey Nkanang, said Mr. Akpan will be hanged for murder while adding that for the other offenses, she has sentence him to life in prison.

After his conviction by the court, justice Bassey asked Mr. Akpan if he has anything in mind to say to the court. In response, Akpan said, ” My Lord, I am not guilty. ” But the judge retorted and said the court had passed that stage. He told him to say other things related to the case.

It was at this point that Akpan now said; ” My Lord, in Nigeria there are many assassinations, but nobody does anything about it. ”

It is not exactly clear what the convicted man wanted to achieve with his controversial statements in court.

The murder of Ms Umoren, a fresh graduate of the University of Uyo, went viral last year after her family raised the alarm when she failed to return home. According to them, they last saw her after she left Calabar to look for work at the invitation of Mr Akpan.
