AGAIN: Nigerian killed in South Africa over cellphone

The Cable has reported death a Nigerian man, who was been killed in South Africa over an alleged cellphone repair dissatisfaction of a customer.

The report which quoted Sylvester Okonkwo, acting chairman of the Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA), in the Kwazulu Natal province, said that Ikenna Otugo, the deceased, was killed at Empangeni, in the province, on Tuesday.

The incident was later confirmed by NAN through a telephone conversation with Okonkwo, who stated that the 41-year-old native of Nimo in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State, “was stabbed to death by unknown assailants”, after repairing a cellphone for a customer who was dissatisfied with the work done.

Okonkwo sid;

“Otugo had repaired a cellphone for a female client in the area, but that she was not satisfied with the work done by the deceased…the client brought some men who allegedly stabbed the victim.” killing him in the process, the report quoted him to have said.

“Otugo died on the way to the hospital following the stabbing. We have reported the incident to the police and national secretariat of our union, NUSA,’’ he said.

“His (Otugo’s) body is now in the mortuary awaiting an autopsy.’’

Okonkwo said the deceased is survived by a nine-year-old son.

However, Adetola Olubajo, President of NUSA, has confirmed the incident, saying the national secretariat had been informed.
