The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State has berated the Chairman of the APC in Anambra, Chief Basil Ejidike, over his call for the cancellation of the inconclusive governorship election.
Secretary of the party in the Council Area, Mr Chukwuemeka Nnebe, who stated this on Monday in a press briefing described the call by the party Chairman as inconsequential, stressing that Ejidike had no right to challenge the outcome of a peaceful and transparent poll.
The APC secretary alleged that the party’s candidate, Senator Andy Uba, was not a valid candidate at the election following what he described as “electoral fraud” that produced him.
Nnebe said: “Our attention has been drawn to the statement by the Anambra state Chairman of APC, Mr Basil Ejidike where he called for the cancellation of the November 6 governorship election in the state.
“Mr Ejidike subverted democratic process to become Acting State Chairman and has no locus to challenge the outcome of a peaceful and transparent election.
“Mr Andy Uba, whose interest he is fostering was not a valid candidate at the election when the process that produced him as a candidate of APC was an electoral fraud and undemocratic.”
Nnebe said the governorship election reflected the wish and mandate of the people, urging the public to dismiss Ejidike’s statements which he termed a case of bad loser.
“Anambra people have spoken loudly by the results already announced by the INEC and the rantings of the opposition cannot change the wishes and aspirations of the people to sustain the socio-economic development of our dear state.
“it has become clear that Anambra electorates have chosen their governor hence the submission of Basil Ejidike is Inconsequential and does not hold water .
“We congratulate Gov Willie Obiano, the National Leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA for the victory in eighteen local government areas,” Nnebe added.
Obiano, Soludo Rigged Poll, Supreme Court Will Decide Next Governor – APC
In an earlier report, the All Progressives Congress (APC) accused the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, and the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, of rigging the inconclusive governorship election in the state.
The Chairman of APC in Anambra state, Basil Ejidike, made the remark while rejecting the results so far declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement he issued on Sunday night, the APC Chairman vowed to contest the results at the Supreme Court if INEC insists on declaring Soludo as the winner of the governorship election.
Ejidike vowed never to accept the outcome of the election because the people of the state want an APC governor.
Ejidike called for the cancellation of the election and a new date fixed for a fresh conduct of the poll.
According to Ejidike: “We want the whole world to hear our voice that we will never accept the outcome of the Anambra gubernatorial election.
“The candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and the sitting Governor, Willie Obiano, manipulated the whole electoral system and we will stand to resist it.”
“We virtually won in all the local government, but Willie Obiano and Charles Soludo, through instrumentality, corrupt-minded INEC officers, subverted the whole process in favour of APGA.
“But if INEC goes ahead to announce the results, we will definitely challenge the election process at the court of law, up to Supreme Court. Nobody can intimidate us.”
Anambra Election Inconclusive As INEC Suspends Results
Meanwhile, the Electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the November 6 Anambra State governorship election inconclusive.
This decision reached by INEC was also followed by the suspension of collation of election results pending the conduct of the election in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.
The INEC’s Returning Officer for the Anambra State Governorship election, Professor Florence Obi, disclosed this in Awka, the state capital in the early hours of Monday morning, November 8, 2021.
Professor Obi, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Cross River, announced that the winner of the Anambra governorship elections will be announced when the last run of the election is held in Ihiala LGA on Tuesday, November 9.
