The Centre For Democracy Development (CDD) has pointed out that there was massive vote- buying by Political parties in the Anambra state gubernatorial elections which held on Saturday, 6th of November 2021 through to Sunday, 7th of November 2021. This election malpractice was made known by the Centre for Democracy Development’ s (CDD) director, Sa’ eed Usaini who maintained that most of these crimes were committed right in front of security operatives turning a ” blind eye” .

Speaking with reporters, he said; ” We have also noted widespread incidence of vote- buying that will likely negatively impact the credibility of the election result. CDD observers reported numerous not so discreet cases of ‘ see and buy’ in polling units across the 21 LGAs of the state. ”

” In many reported cases, police officers have been alleged to have looked the other way likely as a result of having themselves been compromised. ”

He added that the technical issues faced by the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) question the authenticity and credibility of the election. According to the director, the BVAS failed to capture voters finger prints and facial recognition in many cases and those affected were told to wait until the issue was resolved.

He also added that the use of manual mode of Accreditation and voting was totally adopted in some polling units in Akwa South, Awka North, Idemili North, Idemili South, and Anambra West local government areas of the state due to the Malfunctioning of the BVAS.

In other news, an INEC official, curating the Anambra Election in Orumba North Local governments area, Michael Otu, has cried out that he was forced to sign election results even though he didn’ t believe in the credibility. The collation officer alleged that some of his fellow officials had connived with those who disrupted the voting process. He said his experience on the field was pathetic but ” I thank God I’ m alive. I signed the results, but I didn’ t believe in the results. An INEC staff, Assistant Collation Officer, turned me to her house boy. I was monitored around, I signed the result because I saw my life was in danger. ”
