ANAMBRA ELECTION: PDP’s Candidate, Ozigbo Speaks On Polls, Insists That INEC Must Conduct Elections In All Areas Polls Were Not Held

Valentine Ozigbo, the candidate of the People’ s Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra’ s gubernatorial election 2021, has stated that he is still optimistic of victory in the State Governorship polls held on Saturday.

The electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had announced the results of 20 of the 21 LGAs of Anambra State.

The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Professor Charles Soludo is leading in the contest, with Ozigbo in the second place.

INEC declared the election inclusive, fixing Tuesday for a supplementary election.

During a press briefing, the People’ s Democratic Party candidate said he was optimistic that he would still secure victory ultimately. He added that Ihiala local government was not the only area the election was not held.

Ozigbo stressed that with more than 248, 000 outstanding votes in Ihiala local government, including other places the polls were never conducted, PDP was still hopeful of emerging victorious in the State.

He urged the people of Ihiala to troop out in their numbers to cast their ballots for the PDP as a better option in Anambra governance.

The PDP candidate condemned vote buying, describing it as a major problem in the country’ s political development.

When asked about his next line of action, he emphasized that his preoccupation was the supplementary polls, and would decide on the further course of action on the election completion.

According to him: ” We have the statistics, and know the areas where INEC could not conduct an election on Saturday, and we call on them to ensure they do so. ”

” After Ihiala, other places where elections did not take place will follow, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC must obey the electoral law and conduct election where it did not hold.

” The party has all areas where election did not hold and will be happy if elections are held there. ”

The supplementary election is expected to be held on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, CNPP, has applauded INEC for conducting an election which the group described as a true reflection of the will of the people.
