ANAMBRA GUBER: Professor Soludo Is Coasting To Victory With Results Declared So Far

Yesterday, the residents of Anambra State finally had the chance to go to the polls to elect the man who would pilot the affairs of the State for the next four years. Eighteen (18) parties with their respective flag- bearers participated in an election marred by accusations of vote- buying, malfunctioning of voting machines and voters apathy.

While all these initially threatened the successful conduct of the election, many people still trooped out to cast their votes for their candidates of choice. The election had been seen as a three- horse race between Valentine Ozigbo, the flag bearer of the PDP, Andy Uba of the APC, and Chukwuma Soludo of APGA.

Although the technological glitches meant the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) extended voting till today (Sunday), results from many polling units in the State had started coming in since yesterday. According to the result declared so far, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Chukwuma Soludo is the man to beat.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the candidate of the All progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is having a strong showing going by the results released from five local governments as of 7: 02 a. m. on Sunday. The former governor of Nigeria’ s apex bank is leading with a wide margin in Anambra East, with indications showing that APGA led the two other main parties, the PDP and APC by over 7000 votes.

In Anaocha LGA, the result seems to be favouring APGA and its candidate with the party widening the gap with over 1000 votes against PDP in the second position and APC in the third position. Also, in Onitsha South LGA, Professor Soludo is in the lead, with APGA leading both the APC and PDP with over 2, 000 votes. In Awka South LGA, APGA is leading APC by over 10, 000 votes and PDP with over 7, 000 votes.

Also according to Nigerian Tribune, In Orunmba South LGA, APGA and Professor Soludo are doing remarkably well leading the nearest challenger with over 2, 000 votes. Also in Aguata LGA of the state where the three major candidates hailed from, the breakdown of the result shows APGA having 9, 136 votes, as against the 4, 773 votes of the APC and 3, 798 votes of the PDP.

In Idemili South LGA, the solution is the same as APGA leads the PDP by 296 votes and APC with over 1, 000 votes, while in Nnewi North LGA, the ruling party leads the PDP and the APC by over 2, 000 votes apiece.
