The supplementary election scheduled for today in Ihiala Local Government Area in Anambra State has started. There are over 148, 000 registered voters in Ihiala that will cast their votes to decide who becomes the next Governor of the state.
The Nigerian security agencies have tightened up security in the LGA to prevent thugs and hoodlums from sabotaging the voting process.
However report from Daily Trust has it that Nigerian Soldiers have blocked top APGA politician in Anambra State, Victor Umeh on his way to Ihiala.
That will form the basis of our discussion in this article.
Why did soldiers block Victor Umeh on his way to Ihiala?
INEC rescheduled Ihiala LGA election because voting didn’ t take place there on November 6 and also there were plans by some politicians to rig election in the LGA.
That’ s why the Nigerian security agencies are doing everything possible to ensure that politicians who don’ t have anything to do with the election in Ihiala are prevented from going there.
Although Victor Umeh is a top APGA politician in Anambra State, he has nothing to do with the election in Ihiala. Victor Umeh is from Anambra Central Senatorial District precisely from Anaocha LGA.
Ihiala is in Anambra South Senatorial District. Also, he is not a candidate in this election neither is he the party agent of APGA in any of the polling units in Ihiala. He was going to show solidarity with APGA hence the reason Nigerian Soldiers on duty asked him to stay away from Ihiala.
One would wonder why Umeh wanted to go to Ihiala when the Nigerian Police has asked politicians who have nothing to do with the election in Ihiala to keep off. However, we hope that the Nigerian security agencies remain neutral during the election in Ihiala.
Just like they have asked Umeh, a former Senator that represented Anambra Central in the Senate and former National Chairman of APGA to keep off Ihiala, they should also do the same to other politicians in Anambra State who have no business with the election in Ihiala LGA.
