Anambra- Poll: Why INEC Postponed Election In Ihiala, A Stronghold Of APC That Has 148, 000 Voters

The much- awaited electoral transition in Anambra State began on Saturday as INEC was still in charge of the process to announce the next governor of the southeastern state. It has been an interesting electoral outplay in Anambra State as the electoral body decides to postpone the poll in Ihiala Local Government Area to November 13 as reported by the Punch.

The has been noted as a consequent development of the report that some political players in the local government rigged election in some pollings units in favour of their preferred candidate.

In an earlier report, it has been confirmed that the candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance, Professor Charles Soludo is winning the race with about 40, 000 votes ahead of other contenders. Many people have been wondering why the electoral body choose to postpone the election in Ihiala LGA, a stronghold of All Progressive Congress, APC that has over 148, 000 eligible voters.

What could be the reason for the postponement of the election in the Ihiala Local Government Area by INEC?

It is apt to stress that the registered voters of about 148, 000 in Ihiala LGA are a huge number that the electoral body would give the much- needed attention to whatever happened there to ensure it conducts a credible election and looking at the margin between the leading party and others following the lead.

It was gathered that Soludo of APGA has scored 99, 160 votes, the candidate of the People’ s Democratic Party, Valentine Ozigbo has 49, 475 votes as Andy Uba of All Progressive Congress amassed 40, 270.

In view of the above, it can be said that the race is still open to the three candidates because of the over 148, 000 registered voters to come and vote on November 13, the vote count could go to any of the candidates and change the already known figures. As it stands, Ihiala Local Government remained the deciding LGA on who will succeed Willie Obiano as the next Governor of Anambra state.

Meanwhile, it is also apt to note that Ihiala Local Government Area is believed to have the highest number of eligible voters in Anambra State and it’ s also an APC dominated LGA. The candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Senator Andy Uba is highly regarded in the local government.

Recall, Senator Andy Uba won the 2015 Senatorial election for Anambra South as a result of the massive votes gotten from the Ihiala LGA which is under Anambra South. He was able to sell the party to the people of Ihiala after his defection from PDP to APC before the 2019 general election.

In all, November 13 is right around the corner as one party will get a huge share of votes from Ihiala LGA that has over 148, 000 registered voters, hence the November 13 supplementary poll will decide the winner of the Anambra gubernatorial election.
