The long- awaited Anambra State Governorship election took place yesterday as the people of State trooped out to decide who become their next governor to succeed Willie Obiano come 2022.
Although the election is still in process as the electoral commission, INEC has extended voting to later hours of Sunday, consequent to the technical challenges it faced yesterday as some polling units couldn’ t complete their voting because of technical failure. But results have been collated in many Local Government Areas where the election was concluded.
It has been gathered that the candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance in the Anambra election, Charles Soludo has won as many as7 Local Government Areas that have been announced so far. This was contained in the report by Daily Trust. It was also confirmed that the candidate of the APC, Andy Uba lost in his Local Government Area to APGA.
Why contribute to the winning of 7 Local Government Areas by Soludo?
The acceptance of his party, APGA by the people of Anambra State
One thing that can’ t be disregarded in politics is the popularity of a political party. The All Progressive Grand Alliance is popular and accepted by the people of the Local Government Areas below:
Orumba South, Njikoka, Awka South, Enugu South, Anaocha, Enugu East, and Onitsha South, these Local Government Areas are strongholds of Soludo’ s party.
You will remember vividly that Governor Willie Obiano claimed victory in all the 21 local government areas as the candidate of APGA in the 2017 gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
Again, the APGA’ s governorship candidate for the November 6 election in Anambra is familiar with the electorates. In 2009, he run for the governorship position under the platform of PDP however lost to Peter Obi of APGA. With the early win of 7 LGA by Soludo, it means that he has won one- third of the LGA in Anambra.
Why did APC candidate, Andy Uba lose his Local Government Area To All Progressive Grand Alliance?
It is apt to note that the APC candidate, APGA candidate and the PDP candidate in the Anambra gubernatorial election all come from the same Local Government Area, Aguata LGA. However, Soludo is the popular political player in Aguata amongst them.
Meanwhile, the election is going on and counting continues, so it’ s not over until it’ s over. The Anambra State governorship race can still be anyone’ s race.
