Anneka Rice has admitted that she actually never cared much for the title of her iconic reality show Challenge Anneka.
Airing from 1989-1995, Challenge Anneka followed the presenter as she journeyed up and down the country being given a specific task to complete in each episode.
The show made Anneka a star and was revived 10 years on over at ITV at 2006, but it turns out that the title never really appealed to its titular star, which she admitted for the first time on social media.
A fan – who has clearly been binge-watching Challenge Anneka in lockdown because why not? – noticed that Anneka would never refer to the show by its actual name, but instead as ‘The Challenge Show,’ and it turns out this wasn’t a slip of the tongue.
‘Wasn’t happy about being in the title,’ Anneka revealed, ‘but at the time the BBC were keen on it.
‘Each project was a massive team effort. So that’s why I could never bring myself to say it…’
Watching old episodes of Challenge Anneka, and I'm obsessed with how @AnnekaRice refers to it as "The Challenge Programme" throughout rather than its actual title (which is plastered everywhere in neon yellow). I've even started correcting her under my breath each time.
