The national leader of the All Progressive Congress – APC, and the ruling party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has made a passionate appeal to the people of Edo state to reject the candidacy of the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki who is flying the flag of the PDP in the forthcoming elections in the state.
Speaking via a video made exclusively for the post, he described himself as a democrat and the leader of all democrats in Nigeria respective of political parties.
He further appealed to the Edo people that he was among the people who fought to make sure democracy was enshrined in the country and was also at the forefront of installing the government which Nigeria is currently enjoying now.
He added that Obaseki was not part of the struggle to make democracy happen in Nigeria therefore he does not understand what democracy means.
Further speaking, he mentioned the Edo house of assembly incident where some lawmakers were disallowed from being sworn in, Tinubu stated that Obaseki acted like a dictator and that was not one of the traits of a true democrat.
Tinubu further added that while the fracas was going on in the state assembly, many Nigerians reached out to the governor to make him stand down and end the imbroglio in the assembly but he refused, he said there were entreaties from the national assembly and even from the attorney general of the federation but Obaseki still refused to stand down and end the fracas in the state assembly.
The Edo governorship elections will hold on the 19th of September 2020 and some of Obaseki’s supporters have repeatedly warned Tinubu that ‘Edo is not Lagos’ owing to the fact Tinubu is viewed as a godfather who most times, is accused of allegedly controlling the activities of sitting governors and some other politicians who are his proteges.
