The Congress of All Progressives and the People’ s Democratic Party have expressed optimism that the expected victory of the candidate of the Grand Alliance of All Progressives, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, will be canceled in the state governorate ballot of Anambra which was held on Saturday. Both parties said that if some anomalies in the poll were corrected, they would eventually come out on top. They also said that additional elections in Ihiala local government on Tuesday (today) would increase their chances of winning the ballot.
Soludo had been declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission in 18 local government areas where the results were declared before the collection of results was suspended to make way for the additional ballot in Ihiala. Ihiala has around 148, 000 registered voters. Soludo got around 103, 000 votes, while his closest challenger, Valentine Ozigbo, voted around 51, 000. APC chairman Basil Ejidike said the party had been cheated in most cases. He said that in the northern local government area of Idemili, where the APC won more than 10, 000 votes, INEC overturned the result.
Ejidike has denied rumors that he would collapse after hearing about his party’ s seemingly poor performance in the poll. He said, ” I did not collapse after hearing the poll results. My constituency is 006 Bridgehead Ward 2 in Onitsha South. I got 95%. How can I fall apart in such a situation? ” We did not ask for an election that is underway to be quashed. We did not threaten the court to act.
It was all false news. ” We all expected INEC to do well in the field. Elections, but we were surprised by the dysfunction of the bimodal voter accreditation system. It took me 15 minutes to get deleted. Due to a machine malfunction, I went to the INEC office in Onitsha eight times. He asked the electoral arbitrator to verify the results of the Orumba North constituency and to make the necessary corrections. ” In Idemili Nord the results were collected, and the APC scored 10, 480, but surprisingly INEC canceled the results for that area, ” Ejidike added.
