ASUU STRIKE: Buhari Lambasted For Gifting 10 Luxury Cars To Niger Republic Worth N1. 1bn While ASUU Is Still On Strike
Nigerians have criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for buying 10 Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs for the Niger Republic for N1. 1 billion.
Many people have stated that it is extremely unjustifiable for the government to have made such a choice at a time when the Academic Staff Union of Universities is on strike.
David Hundeyin, an investigative journalist, was the one who revealed the information on social media.
According to him, he was able to get a document proving that the President of Nigeria had given his approval for the purchase of the vehicles to the neighbouring country. The document came from the Budget Office in Nigeria.
Hundeyin also shared the document in the email to substantiate the statement that the President sanctioned the transfer of funds to a business known as Kaura Motors Nigeria Limited on February 28, 2022.
The document read in part, ” Being release of funds in the sum of N1, 145, 000, 000 to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation IFO Kaura Motors Nig. Limited for supply of 10 numbers Toyota Land Cruiser V8 Vehicles to the Republic of Nigeria vide Mr President approval on page 83 dated 28/02/2022. ”
The Federal Government has defended the allegations of the purchased vehicles by claiming that it was done to enable the nation to protect its territory for the benefit of Nigeria’ s security.
