Atiku Abubakar, a former Nigeria’s vice-president, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari over his New Year live broadcast.
Daily Trust reports that Atiku in a thread of tweets on Friday,January 1, said that laziness from Buhari’s government made the nation suffer multi-facet downcast in the previous year.
In his New Year message, the former vice president said the out-gone year was quite dramatic and it was only by the grace of the Almighty God that Nigerians survived to witness the succeeding year.
”It is cheering that we are entering the New Year with refreshing news of a handful of certified vaccines against the dreaded COVID-19 virus.
And better still is news of commencement of vaccination in some parts of the world.
I am expectant that the vaccine(s) would soon be available for vaccination in Nigeria. It is also hoped that very soon life would return to normal.”
Atiku said the damage that the pandemic had done to lives remained, and that it would take some time for the nation to overcome.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to reorganize Nigeria’s security architecture in 2021.
President Muhammadu Buhari made the promise in his 2021 new year message to Nigerians on Friday, January 1.
”We’ll be re-energizing and reorganizing the security apparatus and personnel of the armed forces and the police with a view to enhancing their capacity to engage, push back and dismantle the operations of both internal and external extremist and criminal groups waging war against our communities in some parts of the country.”
President Buhari, however, noted that his government needs to be more proactive and preemptive in ensuring that such incidents do not become a norm.
The president said his government is fully aware of its responsibility to protect the lives and property of all Nigerians, adding that they will not relent in learning and adapting to changing threats to national security and civic wellbeing.
In a related development, Borno state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari has still performed better in handling Borno’s security challenges.
Zulum disclosed this despite the continuous attack by the Boko Haram insurgents in the state.
The governor disclosed this on Sunday, while addressing northern elders from the Arewa Consultative Forum in Maiduguri.
The elders were led by the chairman of the forum’s board of trustee, Ambassador Shehu Malami and its executive hairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Daily Trust reports .
The governor said:
”Today, Bama is coming back to life and so is Askira-Uba,Damboa, Gwoza and others. Life is even returning go Baga. This was impossible before Buhari.
”In fact it was not possible to move few kilometers out of Maiduguri. Insurgents were so bold to attack and take over military facilities like the army barrack at Monguno, Bama,Giwa Barrack and Multinational Joint Task Force Headquarters at Baga to mention just a few.”
