Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) governorship candidate in the Anambra governorship election broke down in tears when he visited the Okpoko community on Wednesday afternoon to mark the start of construction of a multi- million- naira road project.
Ojoto street retiring from Ede road in Okpoko village, Ogbaru local government area of the state is the focus of the project that is now underway.
He couldn’ t control his emotions when he saw a breastfeeding woman in her 30s who had fallen into a ditch while trying to cross a terrible road in the neighborhood.
According to reports, Amarachi Nwachukwu, a young mother, was on her way to acquire a bag of sachet water to sell to collect money to feed her family when she dropped to the ground with her baby strapped to her back.
Nwachukwu revealed her condition that: ” I borrowed N200 from a good Samaritan to buy a bag water to sell so as to feed my child because we have not eaten for two days. I was on my way to the shop before I lost control and fell down. ”
After all, fate was so kind to her when Okonkwo, the Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, through his pro- value Humanity foundation, revived her hope by awarding her a sum of N200, 000 with which she could establish a business and support her family.
After only a brief speech, the ZLP’ s flag bearer stated that the state’ s residents had suffered from immense agony as a result of the state government’ s failure to make a positive difference in their lives.
According to him, ” We saw the woman fell possibly as a result of starvation and we bought food for her. When we discovered that she couldn’ t eat, we fed her and the child by our self. We also raised 200, 000 through my foundation for her to start a petty business.
” This is the condition of people of the state. If we had not come here, we wouldn’ t know that that there are people created by God and who live in penury under the leadership of this current administration. Some people cannot afford a meal. If this incident can happen before us, that means there are thousands of others who are languishing in poverty in the neighborhood.
” The APGA administration has gone so bad in the state. No matter how much campaign they indulge in, 16 years is enough to have turned Anambra into a modern state, ” he revealed.
Further more, communal President General Francis Enemuo expressed gratitude to the businessman for the new initiative, saying it was a result of divine intervention on his part. Enemuo hoped that God would grant the businessman victory so that he could do even more good for the people of the state.
