Welcome to our daily updates tagged Edo Watch, an in-depth at behind the scene towards the build-up to Edo state 2020 election.

It is no longer news that the peace moves embarked upon by Obaseki in recent days have proved futile. Obaseki who was a guest to the Asiwaju Jagaban of APC politics, Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the weekend appealed for peace between him and Oshiomhole to be brokered. The sudden booting out of the Edo state Governor by APC national executive dawned reality on Obaseki.

Immediately he swung into action and tried using the instrumentality of the State Traditional Council in bringing Oshiomhole over to the dialogue table. This also failed as Oshiomhole declined to show up at the 32nd Edition of the Annual Auchi Day celebration held at the palace of Otaru of Auchi. It was hoped the event would bring a truce between both warring parties.

Earlier moves by Obaseki to appeal the Benin monarch to broker a ceasefire went awry as well.

Why and how did Obaseki derail? this question as pragmatic as it implies made us dig further in unveiling the chronicles of his fall.

Here are the seven sins of Obaseki.

An open secret as the governor is accused of being arrogant and regarding party members as lazy and not smart as well as creative.

Obaseki is accused of nonperformance. The governor’s projects are of low quality and sparsely dispensed.

In contrast with Oshiomhole’s development Obaseki has practically done nothing.

His claims to have built 150 roads covering 200 kilometres clearly shows lack of road development.

This translates to a road length of 1.3 kilometres each.

Flippant Talk

This is no longer a secret as the political class and elite are angry with Obaseki over his flippant talks of calling everyone a thug and a beggar always saying the uneducated are scheming to take over the state and its governance.

They find this annoying.

Fight with APC state leaders.

Best way to describe this is as follows, Edo APC state leaders are seen as lepers by the government house.

His fight with Tinubu.

Tinubu was ridiculed by Obaseki’s media aides. All they keep shouting is Edo is not Lagos.

Obaseki can not be like Ambode.

Yet Obaseki went to pay homage at the Bourdilion residence of Tinubu weekend.

Tinubu has presented his matter to Buhari. What transpired is left for us to imagine.

His fight with the house of Reps and Senate

The office of the speaker was disregarded and his suggestions rejected. The Senate president was clearly warned not to bring his investigative body near the state, stating it lacks the power to interfere in the EDHA assembly crisis and APC leadership crisis.

His fight with APC govs.

This one is worse. Rumours have it that the Sheikh of APC governors and potential APC presidential candidate for 2023 elections, El Rufai the Kaduna State governor was even stranded at the airport after Obaseki dribbled his committee that came to the state to broker peace.

His fight with the press

Obaseki considers the press as pest worthy to be gotten rid off. He thinks they are out to milk the state government.

They are waiting for him.

One man’s meat is another man’s poison, APC in its quest for rebirth has considered Ogiemwonyi as a suitable replacement.

Ogiemwonyi is seen as one who has the right carriage to blend a perfect administrative performance and a loyal party man.

APC is hell-bent on righting Obaseki’s mistake and Ogiemwonyi is seen as the suitable replacement.

Will Obaseki be able to get forgiveness for these aforementioned sins? some might be granted but some again have no powers to be granted.

For a clearer understanding lets refer to what the 7 sins mean.

Originating in Christian theology, the seven deadly sins are pride, envy, gluttony, greed, lust, sloth, and wrath. Pride is sometimes referred to as vanity or vainglory, greed as avarice or covetousness, and wrath as anger. Gluttony covers self-indulgent excess more generally, including drunkenness.

A broken bottle can never be patched a good strategist would better replace the bottle.
