A throwback video of wanted militant leader, Terwase Akwaza aka Gana, who was killed while on his way to surrender for amnesty programme in Benue State has surfaced.
The video mirrors the depth of the security challenge in Nigeria, as Gana talked to a journalist about being sponsored by unscrupulous elements to form criminal groups across different states.
In the video which was recorded years ago, Gana revealed how some northerners offered him massive amounts of money as much as N350 million to form terrorist groups in the north.
“They started saying that they have clashes in Nigeria. They told me they (sponsors) have a state they want to capture. They named Plateau, Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa, but those mallams I was doing something with wanted me to work on Taraba State” he said as he struggled to speak the English language.
He went on to reveal that he demanded a sum of N1 billion to form a militant group which they declined. He was then offered N50 million which he also turned down and in turn demanded N750 million. He was later offered N350 million which he finally rejected. According to his account, the amount was too small to overwhelm the security architecture in Taraba State.
The question on the lips of social media users is the identities of those who sponsored bandits like Gana with big sums of money. Rumours have it that Gana was sponsored by politicians, a claim that hasn’t been backed with facts.
Gana was killed Nigerian troops recently after he embraced the Benue State government amnesty programme for the second time in less than 5 years.
