Benue State Government has placed a bounty of N5 million for anyone with useful information that can lead to the arrest of the killers of late Dr. Terkura Suswam.
The Next Edition reported that Terkura Suswam, elder brother of Senator Gabriel Suswam, was murdered by unknown gunmen in his village in Anyiin, Logo local government area of the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom disclosed this Thursday afternoon while briefing journalists after an expanded Security Council meeting held in Government House Makurdi.
According to the Governor, the council condemned in strong terms the murder of such an illustrious son who he described as a business mogul, a grassroots mobilizer and peace maker.
Ortom who noted that late Terkura Suswam has contributed to the development of the state said “for his death, council has declared total war against criminal elements, not only those who killed Terkura Suswam but all bandits and those going about with AK47.”
He, therefore, enjoyed all residents to be on alert and plugged the summer of N5million for anyone who will volunteer information that can lead to their arrests.
Ortom vowed that his administration will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the killers of Dr. Terkura Suswam is apprehended.
The Governor also announced that the security council has placed a dusk-to-dawn (6pm to 6am) curfew on the entire Sankara axis comprising of three local governments namely Katsina Ala, Ukum and Logo.
Recall that the security council had banned the use of Motorcycle popularly called “Okada” in Katsina All and Ukum LGA following spate of insecurity in the axis. Today, council sustained the bank and extended it to Logo local government.
The council has also banned the use of an old model of Toyota Corolla popularly called “Duck Nyash” used for commercial transportation.
Ortom said evidence available to government shows that the said vehicle is perpetually used to commit crime in the state particularly in the Sankara axis.
He further pointed out that it was the said vehicle that was used by those who killed the late Suswam.
He thanked the Sankara people for their cooperation saying the council has taken proactive steps to safeguard their lives and property.
He directed all security agencies in the state to apprehend and impound any motorcycle and the old model of Toyota Corolla in sight urging members of the vigilantes and livestock guards to provide support
He urged the local government chairmen in the Sankara axis to liaise with the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), to ensure that all commercial drivers in that axis are properly documented and must load from the park.
