The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two robbery suspects who disguised themselves as masquerades to rob residents of their money and other valuables in the state.
The Two masquerades were reportedly arrested for allegedly robbing a resident of the Melange community inside the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The suspects, after their arrest, were later unveiled and identified as Sheriff Ojo and Muhammed Lukman. During the alleged robbery operation, one Adinoyi Mohammed was attacked by the masquerading robbers with all sorts of weapons including cutlass.
They stormed the victim’ s residence during the quiet hour and inflicted serious bodily injury on him before making away with the money that amounted to about N370, 000 and his mobile handset. It was also learned that the two masquerades also inflicted injury on the victim’ s aged father, Saliu Ajayi before leaving the scene of the incident. The two victims are now receiving treatments in a private hospital within the state while the suspects are in police custody undergoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the police in the community got wind of their activities and swooped in on them as they were promptly arrested with the stolen items still in their possession.
Ondo state police command spokesperson, Funmi Odulami who confirmed their arrest the said in a statement that;
” The two suspects who paraded themselves as masqueraders, inflicted injury with cutlasses on one Adinoyi Mohammed, dispossessed him of the sum of? 370, 000. 00, a handset valued? 32, 000. 00 and a shirt valued at? 2, 500. 00.
” They also inflicted injury on the victim’ s father, Saliu Ajayi before leaving the scene of the incident but they were apprehended by security agents within the town.
” Two cutlasses, charms and masquerade clothes were recovered from them and the two suspects had been arrested and will soon be charged to court while effort is ongoing to arrest the other fleeing masqueraders. “
