A politician from the Northern part of Nigeria and the former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Babagana Kingibe, has disclosed that contrary to the opinion of many of his colleagues, the unity of Nigeria is negotiable.
Recall that many politicians in the country have condemned the calling for Nigeria’ s separation by the separatist groups, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, and the Yoruba Nation, described the unity of Nigeria as non- negotiable.
” Nigeria is for all of us. Its unity is not negotiable. And its ultimate success can only be achieved if we all come together with a common goal of having peace and prosperity for our nation, ” President Buhari stated at Nigeria 61st Independence.
The former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF) while speaking on Saturday at The Sun Newspaper awards for 2020 in Lagos, as reported by The Cable, Kingibe disclosed that anybody can leave the country if they think it will be better for them to do so.
Although, he stated that he believes in Nigeria and that there is no other option than Nigeria, yet the country unity is negotiable.
His words, ” I was born in Nigeria. I was groomed in Nigeria. I believe in Nigeria. People of my generation believe in Nigeria. We have no doubt about the fact that we have no option, but Nigeria.
” However, I think that a few of my colleagues believe that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable. Of course, it is negotiable. Even the unity of a family is negotiable. Even the constitution of husband and wife is negotiable.
He said if the unity of the country is not fruitful to some sections of the country, they will rather go their way.
He added, ” The moment either party feels this union is no longer bearable, that he or she will rather go his/her way. You help them to sit down, consider their condition after a careful and rational examination of the pros and cons of how to be married that they make the decision which suits them best.
” It is not enough to say I do not fare well where I am. So, I am going. “
