Police Attack June 12 Protesters In Lagos & Abuja Men of the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday morning fired several shots into the air in a bid to stop protesters who gathered at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Lagos, the venue of the June 12 Democracy Day protest.
The security operatives also arrested Adeola Oladipupo, a journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ). Oladipupo was covering the protest around the Total Filling Station at Ojota, Ikorodu Road when he was arrested and hurled into the police van. While his arrest was going on, the police tear- gassed and shot in the direction of the protesters, dispersing all of them and making random arrests.
A similar event took place in Abuja where parallel June 12 protests are holding in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. While pro- democracy groups’ protesters gathered at Gudu Park, pro- Buhari protesters staged theirs in front of the Unity Fountain. The pro- democracy protest was earlier scheduled for the Unity Fountain but the venue was suddenly changed to Gudu Park. The Unity fountain is heavily guarded by armed police officers and other personnel suspected to be DSS operatives.
With a country that has democracy and also celebrating democracy day. The police abusing the right of the citizen is very bad.
Those culprits should be brought to book With immediate effect.
