Many non-governmental organizations have warned President Buhari and urged him to protect the lives of the people as he has promised the citizens during his political campaign. Different groups have urged President Buhari to intensify his effort to end insecurity and the crimes committed by political office holders as well as police officers in the country.
On Tuesday, HURIWA sent a message to President Muhammadu Buhari. In its message to the president, HURIWA stated that there many he a big protest in Nigeria which would rock the country in a very big way if something is not done to protect the lives of the people. HURIWA stated that the lives of the people are very important and they should be protected by the security forces in the country. If the people are not protected, HURIWA claimed that there might be a very big protest that would make a lot of changes to the political system. The group said, ” There would be another EndSars protest in Nigeria if the police don’t change. ”
The group’s coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko alleged that the Nigerian Police are unskilled and lack a good relationship with the people. Despite the protest which took place last year against the Nigerian Police force, HURIWA alleged that the Nigerian Police have not changed in any way and there is a continuous attack against innocent people by the police officers.
Emmanuel Onwubiko said ” The Nigerian police force and its commission has failed in every way. Rather than promote and protect the rights of the people, the Police Commission has turned itself into a cash flow to the powerful people in the agency. The people of the country have the right to be well treated and their rights must be respected. ”
” If the police commission is unable to bring an immediate solution and end to the brutalization of innocent people in the country, there might be a new protest that is worst and bigger than the EndSars protest which took place last year October. It is such a bad thing that the people of the country are still being illegally detained and tortured by those that are supposed to protect them. “
