Senator Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo State, has remarked that the Nigerian government must sympathize with the youth and address their issues.
He also asked the South- East to offer a compelling case for having an Igbo man as the country’ s next President in 2023.
He claims that, while it is reasonable that the nation’ s presidency is designated to the South, the arrangement is not technically codified and is based on a gentleman’ s agreement.
Senator Rochas Okorocha of the Imo West Senatorial District stated he agrees with Southern governors that Nigeria should be headed by a Nigerian from the south in 2023.
On Monday, the former governor revealed this during a segment on Nigerian Television Authority during a conversation with Owelle Rochas Okorocha at 59 and ‘ Award of Icon of Service and Philanthropy, ‘ which was monitored by SaharaReporters.
” When IPOB first formed, they came to Imo State when I was governor, but I listened to them and recognized their problems. They begged me to join them, and I said I would if they could persuade me to get another Biafra nation passport. I could have ordered my troops to shoot them, as they had been in Okigwe and other states, but I decided against it. I had to pay attention to understand what they were going through.
” The Nigerian government should sympathize with the youths in this way, treat them nicely.
” On the topic of zoning the presidency, I favor the Southern governors, and the next region is the South.
” When President Olusegun Obasanjo took office, we began with the South- West became the president. When we got Umaru Yar’ Adua, we returned to the north. The South is fighting back with Goodluck Jonathan, while the North is fighting back with the current President Muhammadu Buhari. So, why would it be changed now that the South is turning again?
” It’ s the right thing to do. If this is not done, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would become a Northern party” , Okorocha stated.
