The gubernatorial candidate of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Osagie Ize-iyamu, has sealed an agreement with former Community development association( CDA) chairmen recently in Benin. The meeting was convened to solicit their support in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
Recall that the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, with the support of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewaure ll, signed an anti-CDA bill into law in 2017. This has brought about the ease of doing business in the state. Edo people, including those in the diaspora, can now buy land in the state and develop it in peace without the disturbance of community agberos (thugs) in the name of CDAs.
Leading other former CDA chairmen to the meeting, the former CDA Chairman of Evboriaria Community, Comrade Osarobo Idahosa, assured the APC gubernatorial candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of their support and admonished him not to renege on his promise. “I want to assure you that we the former CDA chairmen are with you on this election. In 2016, we worked tirelessly for Godwin Obaseki to become governor of Edo state, but after he won, he disbanded us, since then na hunger we dey o, we are not fit again”, Comrade Idahosa said.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu promised to bring them back if they give him a hundred per cent support. According to Ize-Iyamu, “I am not a promise-and-fail politician, my government is going to be you chop, I chop, so am going to repeal the extant laws that abolished the activities of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the state”.
Speaking to Media Gladiators, a Benin Chief who chose to remain anonymous, said he was taken aback when he heard about the inglorious meeting between pastor osagie Ize-Iyamu and former CDA Chairmen. He said it is against the wish and policy of the great Oba of Benin Kingdom and he prays the ancestors do not allow it to see the light of day.
It is now time for the people of Edo State to take their destiny in their own hands and resist both the internal and external enemies of progress and development, trying to truncate the dividends of democraty being enjoyed under the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration.
