Sequel to the recent mass killing of 160 soldiers in different gruesome attacks in Niger Republic, President Mahamadou Issoufou has announced the replacement of the head of the Army.
It would be recalled that Ahmed Mohammed has been the head of the Army for two years, and his reign was marked with violent attacks by Islamic State and al Qaeda.
As a consequence, the President appointed Maj. General Salifou Modi as the successor on Monday following an emergency cabinet meeting.
The Nigerien authorities urged the new head of the Army to renew the campaign against militants that have become dare-devils and monsters across the country.
It would be recalled that no fewer than 71 soldiers were killed in a deadly strike by the al Qaeda militants in less than one month.
