As Nigeria continues to battle its growing spate of insecurity, the likes of bandits, Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram and ISWAP are not giving up anytime soon with their increasing marauding terror escapades.
Just within this week the Nigeria military has lost two of its notable generals as a result of the terror unleashed by these radicals.
Earlier this week the media carried news headlines that over 200 ISIS terrorists were finding their way into Nigeria.
Despite the efforts of the Buhari- led government to deradicalise these terrorists, they still remain adamant in their terror unleashing ways.
Brigadier General Gunned Down As ISWAP Terrorists Ambush Soldiers In Borno
According to the Daily Trust, a Brigadier- General was killed in an ambush by Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Borno state.
Four more troops were allegedly killed in the event, which occurred near Bulguma, a few kilometres from Askira town in the Askira Uba local government district, according to the report.
The 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok, was said to have mobilised to offer reinforcements in Askira, which was under siege.
According to a previous report, ISWAP insurgents invaded the town in a big convoy of gun trucks early Saturday morning, November 13.
According to a local guard, they assaulted a military base and exchanged gunfire with soldiers.
The troops were attacked while on their way to lend support to soldiers fighting insurgents, according to reports.
The following is what an unidentified security source was quoted as saying:
” It’ s a sad day for us at theatre of war; we lost Brigadier Commander (names withheld). The Brigade General and soldiers who were on their way to support our troops at Askira were ambushed and shot dead by ISWAP fighters. We are sad. ”
Meanwhile, according to the source, fighter jets have bombed the lethal gangs, but no other information are known.
Nigerian Army Confirms Killing Of Brigadier- general By ISWAP
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of Brigadier- General Dzarma Zirkushu, the commander of the 28 Task Force Brigade in Chibok, in an updated report.
The terrorists killed the general, along with three other soldiers, while on their way to reinforce troops in Bungulwa village, near Askira Uba, according to a statement by Nigerian Army spokesman Onyeama Nwachukwu.
During the combat, however, Nwachukwu stated the troops successfully maintained their position and destroyed ISWAP equipment.
The statement reads:
” Troops of Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI have neutralized several Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP terrorists during a recent encounter in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
” In the fierce encounter which is still raging as at the time of filing this report, troops supported by the Air Component of OPHK have destroyed five A- Jet, two A- 29, two Dragon combat vehicles and nine Gun Trucks.
” Sadly, a gallant senior officer Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu and three soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice in a very rare display of gallantry as they provided reinforcement in a counter offensive against the terrorists, and successfully defended the location.
” The family of the senior officer and soldiers have been contacted. ”
Meanwhile, the statement added that the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya has deeply commiserated with the families and relations of the fallen heroes.
He has also directed that the troops continue in the ferocious counter offensive and hot pursuit to eliminate the remnant of the fleeing terrorists.
Bandits Kill AVM Maisaka, Grandson In Kaduna
Recall Air Vice- Marshall Mohammed Maisaka(retd), Proprietor and MD of MSK Hospital Rigasa, was assassinated by bandits in Kaduna State earlier this week, according to JoseyWrites.
On Tuesday, November 9, he was fatally murdered at his home on Makarfi Road in Rigasa, Kaduna.
The murder of AVM Maisaka and his grandson has prompted police in Kaduna State to launch an investigation.
Maisaka, who ran a private hospital in Kaduna, was assassinated by gunmen at his home in Ragasi, Kaduna’ s Igabi Local Government Area.
ASP Muhammad Jalige, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of Kaduna Command, confirmed the killing to journalists, adding that the deceased’ s gateman was also hurt in the event.
He said: ” The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday. Maisaka’ s gateman sustained injuries from the attack.
” When the information was received, the Commissioner of Police, Mudassiru Abdullah, directed the Divisional Police Officer and the Area Commander to the scene.
” The corpse has been evacuated to the hospital and the gateman has also been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
” Details of the incident would be made available soon, ” he said.
Borno Deputy Speaker Opens Up On How ISWAP Fighters Burnt His Brother’ s House
In a similar development, Askira, the deputy speaker of the Borno state House of Assembly, condemned an insurgent attack on his brother’ s home.
He claimed that ISWAP fighters invaded his neighbourhood and set fire to his elder brother’ s home. According to Abdullahi Askira, some insurgents set fire to his late brother’ s home.
On Wednesday, November 10, the terrorists entirely destroyed his brother’ s house in Chan Chan Dana Community in Askira Uba local government region, according to the congressman.
” I’ m the one who built it for him, but it’ s not my house… Before they came to attack my village earlier in the day, troops had gone to their enclave and dislodged them. ”
” So, it is unfortunate that they still struck. However, we shall continue to support our troops who are working to ensure there is peace in our domain.
