Muazu Abubakar, the father of Hon. Nasiru Muazu Magary, Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly, has been confirmed dead inside a bandits’ stronghold in northern Nigerian.
Alhaji Abubakar, who was kidnapped eight weeks ago along with his wife, a three-week-old baby, and three other people, was said to have died in bandit captivity as a result of heart failure while in their custody.
In an interview with Blueprint on Saturday, Malam Dahiru Saraki Magarya, the deceased’s elder brother, revealed that his brother had passed away.
Malam Magarya was one of the people kidnapped two months ago, according to reports.
They were said to have been rescued unconditionally on Saturday at the command headquarters in Gusau by the police in collaboration with the military.
It was one of the bandit kingpins, known as Kachalla, according to Malam Magarya, who informed him a day before their rescue by security that his brother had died due to heart failure while in captivity.
Even though my brother and I were separated at the time of the kidnapping, they transferred him to another camp, and it was Kachalla, one of the Bandits’ commanders, who informed me of my brother’s death, which occurred as the result of a heart attack just hours before our rescue,” he explained.
The wife of the speaker’s father, who was kidnapped along with her three-month-old baby, her husband, and three other people, told Blueprint that she overheard one of the bandits say that her husband had died in a radio interview.
“When I heard him say that my husband was dead, I was shocked, but I submitted everything to Almighty God and informed my family that we had been kidnapped together, but they did not listen,” she continued.
On August 5, 2021, hundreds of bandits descended on Magarya town in the Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state before kidnapping their prey and fleeing the scene.
