Buhari And His Cabal May Back This Strong Gov From North To Become President Over Tinubu (Opinion)

Politics has always been a dicey game full of intrigues and surprises to the extent that nobody can comfortably predict the outcome most of the times.

Little wonder why those that understand politics well tagged it a ”zero sum game” where one plus one is still zero until the final result of the election is out. That is only when one can become sure of victory or otherwise. PANDEF reacts as Presidency defends ‘cabal around Buhari’ – Daily Post Nigeria View pictures in App save up to 80% data.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term will expire in 2023. As it stands now, Buhari and his cabal are already making plans on who may actually take over from him when his tenure expires. Many people are gearing up and wishing to be the favoured candidate, but Buhari has not made a choice yet and his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC will be also have a big say on the candidate to choose.

However, this article focuses on one Governor from the North that Buhari and his powerful cabal may choose to back to become the next President in 2023 over the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who many people suggest is very likely to run. Reasons why this Governor may be the chosen one will also be given. Who is this Governor in question that may be favoured to take over from Buhari?

His name is Yahaya Bello. He is currently the Governor of Kogi State. Already, Governor Bello has given enough signs that he will most likely contest for President in 2023. He has started positioning himself for the game. He is now taking some steps and making moves on national issues to drive home the point that he is looking at Nigeria as a whole as someone who is interested in the highest office in the land.

Why Buhari and his cabal may back Governor Bello to become the next President

First, Governor Bello is a core loyalist of Buhari. Buhari knows this fact very well. That was one of the major reasons Buhari backed Bello to emerge Governor of Kogi after the sudden death of Abubakar Audu during the 2015 governorship rerun election in Kogi state. Despite the fact that Bello had left the APC earlier, he was allowed to come back and he still was made the APC candidate for the rerun election which the party had already won reasonably. So, Buhari will like his strong loyalist to succeed him in 2023.

Secondly, Bello is a younger person. Born on June 18, 1975, Governor Bello is 45 years old. He is the youngest Governor in Nigeria. Many Nigerian are clamouring for younger President. Bello is a candidate that is young and may meet the wish of many people demanding for a younger President.

Thirdly, Governor Bello is from North Central region. North Central geo-political zone is another zone after South East that has not been lucky in producing President of Nigeria since the return to democracy in 1999. Now, that is another big political factor that may convince Buhari and his cabal to back Bello to emerge President in 2023.

Finally, Governor Bello has the financial war chest to fund his campaign. He already has the needed political experience as a two-time Governor. Bello also has the political structure and other logistics needed to prosecute his election. Another advantage for him is that Bello is a strong APC member. If he gets the backing of Buhari, his cabal, APC and his colleague Governors, then his ambition of becoming the President will be good to go.
