Today’ s gist is all about a Kaduna State University lecturer whose identity is still yet to be revealed who was sacked arrested over some form of allegations of s*xual harassment against his female students who he was meant to supervise for their final year projects.
It was also reported that the management of the Kaduna State University (KASU) terminated the appointment of Dr. Idowu Abbas, who is a famous lecturer in the Geography Department, for s*xually harassing a female student under his supervision for her final year project.
In a statement that was made on Friday afternoon, which was the 5th of November, 2021, by the Kaduna State University (KASU) Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Abdullahi Ashafa stated that Dr. Idowu Abbas’ s appointment was terminated after the university’ s Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, chaired by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Administration), investigated into the allegations of the s*xual harassment against her lecturer.
However, Prof. Abdullahi Ashafa further sated that the report of the investigation conducted by the university’ s Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee was presented at the 217th Management Meeting of the institution on Monday morning, which was the 12th of January, 2021.
According to the report, it was said that Dr. Idowu Abbas confessed in his testimony to have touched a female student on the bre@st and hugged her from behind against her own will while he was supervising her final year project, when she went to his office to have a discussion with him about her project.
Moreover, his testimonies also revealed other nasty and randy misbehaviour he exhibited towards the female student that was not mentioned.
It was reported that Dr. Idowu Abbas’ gross misconduct violated Section 8. 7 Paragraph (f) of the Administrative and Academic Regulations of Kaduna State University (KASU).
Also, the regulations state that ‘ victimization/harassment of a student through examination marks is punishable by dismissal and/or termination of appointment, ” Prof. Abdullahi Ashafa stated.
Finally, Prof. Abdullahi Ashafa stated that that the management of Kaduna State University (KASU) dismissed Dr. Idowu Abbas from the service of the university and directed that all students under his supervision should be reassigned to a decent lecturer in their department.
The deputy Vice- Chancellor also described Dr. Idowu Abbas’ earlier resignation as ” null and void. “
