The Bodi tribe are mostly found in the southern part of Ethiopia. They have refused to welcome civilization as they believe so much in their ancient traditions. They still practice the trade by barter trading system. They walk for hours to reach their market where they exchange goods or buy some.
This tribe are not allow to call the name of people outside except some few persons. Married people are not also allowed to talk to themselves in public. This tribe usually value their cows that they do not kill them to extract their blood which they drink. They rather make a hole in one of it’s veins to get blood out of it and close it back with clay.
The people of this tribe value fat men more than skinny ones and this could be seen in their most interesting culture known as the Ka’el ceremony. They usually observe this in June. The 14 clans that make up this tribe will present one unmarried man each for the competition. These eligible men will prepare for this competition for three months and during this period, they will not meet with any woman or seen outside their hut. They will be drinking mixture of blood and milk. At sunrise, they would drink 2 litres of blood and anyone that vomits the blood could be disqualified.
After six months, they are meant to come out of the hut. That day, they would cover themselves with ashes and clay and run around trees for hours while the judges stares at them. Any one whom they declare winner is crowned the fattest among the men and is rewarded. They are also highly respected. This made Bodi tribe to value their fat nature more than being slim.
