CNPP Queries Rationale Behind N1. 4bn Vehicle Purchase To Niger Republic Amid ASUU Strike

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for sending N1. 14 billion in cars to Niger Republic.

The Nigerian government, represented by Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning Zainab Ahmed, confirmed that President Buhari approved the purchase and donation of N1. 4 billion in vehicles to Niger Republic to solve its security concerns. Ahmed said this after the FEC meeting on Wednesday. She says the goal is to get Niger some working cars.

Even if Nigerians question the rationale for such a contribution, Buhari, who authorized the purchase, has the right to evaluate the matter independently and act appropriately, she said.

In a statement signed by Secretary- General Willy Ezugwu and released Thursday, the CNPP demanded Buhari’ s impeachment.

CNPP urged the National Assembly to impeach the president for funding a foreign country under the guise of improving her security logistics while failing to address domestic insecurity. The vehicles in question were executive SUV jeeps, not security patrol vans.

” The six- week deadline for Mr. President to address internal security must be shortened immediately, and the Senate must reassemble promptly to begin impeachment proceedings without further delay, ” CNPP urged.

Second, at the height of the country’ s insecurity, a contract to supply 10 Toyota Land Cruisers was awarded, when the Nigerian police lacked operating vehicles and other equipment for internal security operations.
