On December 9, 2020, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directed MTN, Glo, Airtel and 9mobile to stop registration of new SIM for people. This is as a result of insecurity in the country in which millions of SIM didn’t connect to NIN Number
However, on December 16, 2020, the Commission also released another directive to the telecommunications providers to block all SIM cards that are not Connected to NIN by December 31,2020.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is an independent regulatory authority for the telecommunications industry in Nigeria.
It was created under Decree number 75 on 24 November 1992 and it was charged the promotion of fair competition in the communications industry and protection of communications services and facilities providers.
NIN (National Identification Number) is a number used by the governments of many countries as a means of tracking information about the citizens
So what NCC want to do now is to connect NIN server with the server of all telecommunications providers to monitor what people are using SIM card for. A person can have different SIM cards for different network but all will be connected to a single NIN numbers.
