A factional group of the apex Igbo Socio- cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo led by Chidi Ibeh, has raised the alarm that President Muhammadu Buhari, and Igbo leaders have struck a deal to try the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB unfairly.
The organization made this known in a statement endorsed by its Secretary- General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and released to news men.
It stated that the recent reaction from the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was a clear indication of its earlier warning regarding the craftily and hurriedly packaged moles included in Kanu’ s legal team.
Ohaneze revealed that it was clear that there was a collaboration between Aso Rock and the so- called leaders of Igbo land to give the IPOB leader an unfair trial and punishment.
Citing articles 20 and 21 of the body’ s constitution, Ohaneze disclosed that it doesn’ t allow anybody to establish any legal team without being sanctioned by the members of Imeobi and the approval of the General Assembly.
The organization noted that the last time the Imeobi members met was in 31 December last year, but the General Assembly had not had any summit for 4 years now.
The group berated Igbo leaders who have stooped so low as to be used against their own brother.
It warned the presidency that all their plots for premeditated penalty against Kanu would fail.
According to the group: ” Ohanaeze constitution does not permit anyone to set up any legal team without the authorization of Imeobi members and the approval of the General Assembly as stipulated in articles 20 and 21, as the highest decision making organs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
” The last meeting of the Imeobi was on 31st December 2020, as General Assembly meetings had never met since 4 years ago.
” Igbos are amazed at how some desperate and shameless Igbo Elders could descend so low that, they are being used as political jobbers and shenanigans against Nnamdi Kanu without constitutional approval of Imeobi and General Assembly of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
” We are pressurized by Imeobi members to disassociate Ohanaeze Ndigbo from any legal team, as it is illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.
” The office of the Attorney General of the Federation should know that based on the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution, it’ s the fundamental liberty of Nnamdi Kanu to choose his legal team, as any attempt to drag Igbo leadership to give ethnic back up to justify the premeditated penalty for Nnamdi Kanu is dead on arrival, ” he added.
