The Plateau state high court sitting in Jos, the state capital, has reinstated Joshua Laven of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP as the authentic executive chairman of Langtang North local government area.
Joshua, who had one year left to the end of his tenure, was forced out of office after the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) conducted Local Government elections in the state in October 2021, Leadership newspaper reported.
It was gathers that the court ruled that the tenure of the Lantang North LGA chairman will begin to count from the day he was sworn in as elected chairman.
In line with The Nation reports, the court dismissed an appeal filed by Laven’ s challenger, Zulfa Bitrus Rimven of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the ground that the suit was without merit.
Rimven, a lawyer, had approached the court seeking an interpretation of an earlier judgment entered in Laven’ s favour.
However, the judge held that a separate election conducted by PLASIEC for the Langtang North LGA council chair post, which Rimven won, was unnecessary, because, among others, the seat was never vacant.
The Judge ordered Rimven to vacate the office with immediate effect for Laven.
Meanwhile, in a previous report by Daily Trust the Appeal Tribunal in Lagos state has declared Mustapha Olanrewaju, as winner of the local government election in Oriade Ward A, Kirikiri, Oriade Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
The court declared the lawful candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the councillorship position.
The five- man tribunal headed by Justice Morenike Obadina also invalidated the certificate of return earlier issued to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Onyeahasi Omolabake.
The tribunal in the judgement delivered at the Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja, ordered the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to issue a Certificate of Return to Olanrewaju, Vanguard added.
Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd), the LASIEC chairman, who was represented by a LASIEC Commissioner, Olusegun Ayedun, issued a Certificate of Return to the PDP candidate.
It would be recalled that LASIEC announced that APC won all the 57 council seats in the state’ s local government election.
The results were announced by returning officers at all the 57Collation Centres in the state. Although the Saturday, July 24 election recorded low participation by the voters, members of the APC expressed joy that they won the poll.
One of the party members, Kolade Alabi, who was re- elected in Bariga for another four- year term, thanked the people for their trust in him.
