Biography
Sumonu Oladele “Baines” Giwa, known simply as Dele Giwa was a prominent Nigerian Journalist. He was born on 16 March 1947 to a poor family.
He graduated from Fordham University, after which upon his return he got a job with Daily Times Newspaper.
Dele Giwa in collaboration with other prominent Journalists founded the Newswatch magazine. The magazine redefined investigative journalism in Nigeria.
Marital Life and Children
Dele Giwa was said to have been married Thrice. The first was to an American Nurse in 1974.
After his separation from his first wife, He went on to marry former senator Florence Ita Giwa but the marriage lasted 10 months.
Dele Giwa later got married to Olaufunmilayo Olaniyan and it was his third and final marriage.
Dele Giwa had five kids before his death, which included three sons and two daughters. Their names are Billy, Dele Junior, Tunde, Funmi and Aisha.
Death
Dele Giwa was assassinated through a parcel which he received, and it turned out to be a letter bomb.
After the explosion, Dele Giwa was rushed to the hospital and later died for severe third degree burns.
