DESOPADEC: Overah Donates Food Items To Flood Victims In Sapele, Ethiope West LGAs

In a bid to carrying out its function as an interventionist agency, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC through the Commissioner representing Sapele, Ethiope West, and Okpe Local Government Areas in the Commission, Hon. Joyce Overah, on Friday, October 18, 2019 donated food items to victims of the recent flood disaster in Sapele and Ethiope West local government areas.

The affected victims from the local councils, received rice, groundout oil, noodles, yams, processed tomatoes, salts, soaps, others amidst jubilation and great relief.


Presenting the food items to the victims, Hon. Joyce Overah commended the State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, stating that whatever he was doing was to compliment the governor’s effort of ensuring prosperity for all Deltans, and that the items presented to the victims were to ameliorate the problems which the flood had caused them.

While expressing sadness over the unfortunate incident, Hon. Overah however took succour in the fact that the situation is not what the board cannot handle, hence the commission has come to give modest support to the flood victims,

He implored the affected victims to manage whatever relief materials that they have received from the Commission.

Mr Samuel Biokoro, Special Assistance to the Commissioner added that. DESOPADEC as an interventionist agency is saddled with the responsibility of giving assistance to those in the oil bearing areas of the Delta State, and following in the footsteps of Governor Okowa to assist all affected victims in the State, the Honourable Commissioner was moved to give relief materials to the affected flood victims to help alleviate their sufferings.

One of the affected flood victims, Mrs Josephine Epete thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Hon. Joyce Overah for their kind gesture and assistance, praying that the good Lord in his infinite mercies will bless them immensely and keep them safe at all times.
Another flood victim, Mr Samuel Ahwe who could not bottle his joy, sang praises to God Almighty for using Hon. Joyce Overah to put smile on his face and all those that were affected by the flood.

Chief Robert Eyarefe, another affected flood victim from Oghareki thanked the Commissioner for the kind gesture. In his words; “I have been hearing of DESOPADEC giving out assistance to people, but today I am a witness to this testimony. I want to thank Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for appointing such a wonderful and concern Commissioner to represent us. God bless you sir”.

Also, Mrs Jane Okiemute thanked the Commissioner for visiting them and coming to their rescue at a time like this. She expressed her satisfaction over the concern shown by the Commission, stressing that indeed Ogharefe has a good representative in the Board.

The coordinator of Sapele DESOPADEC Staff, Mrs Okpegwa Rachael, Mr Raymond Overah, Mr Fortune Sajere, Mr Edafe Matthew, Mr Eyankwaire Amos, Mr Remi Ogubamela, Mr Jackson Umukoro and other dignitaries were present at the ceremony.
