A police operative attached to the Ogun State Police Command has allegedly shot a motorist, identified only as Akorede.
It was gathered that Akoredo was driving in Oru, in the Ijebu Ode area of the State on Wednesday, when some police operatives stopped him and started searching his vehicle, but things took a different turn when one of the policemen suddenly brought out his gun and shot the driver in the leg.
A Twitter user, identified as Dammy, in his Twitter handle @eyebee247, claimed that the victim did not do anything to warrant the attack by the police officer.
He tweeted, ” Police brutality is still ongoing. This happened during a stop and search in Odogbolu, Ijebu Ode, yesterday, 13th October, 2021. The victim, Akorede, was stopped and suddenly this police officer brought out his gun and shot him without provocation. ”
The victim was seen sitting in a red car and writhing in pain as blood dripped from his leg, in a video clip attached to the post, while in another video, Danny was heard shouting and calling for help.
While recording the incident, Danny was heard calling for help and shouting that Akorede has been shot by the police, while the policeman who allegedly pulled the trigger was also seen sitting on the ground.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said that the policemen involved in the incident had been identified and arrested and investigation into the case was ongoing.
The PPRO said that the incident happened in Oru, Ijebu and the policemen were on official duty when the incident happened and the policeman who who shot the motorist had been arrested and is being investigated to know why he shot the motorist, while the victim had been taken to the hospital.
