Benue State is practically a state that has been heavily terrorized by Fulani herdsmen clashes, with a large number of people killed and a large number of farmlands destroyed. It is the only state in Nigeria that has been heavily disturbed by Fulani herdsmen.
The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has communicated with the federal government on a number of occasions in order to find a long- term solution, but so far, nothing appears to have been accomplished. And in order to keep these industrious farmers from extinction, it is necessary to take infectious measures.
AK- 47 weapons should be allowed to be carried by farmers so that they can protect themselves against criminal herders in Benue, according to the state’ s governor Samuel Ortom.
Governor Ortom made this statement while fielding questions from reporters at the Makurdi International Airport upon his arrival in Abuja for the People’ s Democratic Party (PDP) meeting.
In his opinion, it is ridiculous to expect farmers to defend themselves with cutlasses and Dane guns in a circumstance when herdsmen have modern weaponry such as the AK- 47 rifle
” Farmers should be allowed to carry weapons consummate to the weapons herdsmen are carrying about, killing people, ” Ortom said.
He said he was happy that the House Representative is working towards a legislation whereby every Nigerian will have weapons to defend themselves.
” Let everyone have weapons, so that we can face each other[; not when you have cutlass and Dane guns to face someone with AK- 47. ”
Farmers would no longer be able to flee as Fulani herdsmen chase them with AK- 46s; instead, they will be forced to face the herdsmen and convert the situation into a bloodbath, according to the governor. I feel that as a result of this, there will be some progress in the state.
In your opinion, what do you think about this? It is entirely up to you to share your ideas with me in the comments section.
