Drama As Akpan Tried To Escape After He Was Sentenced To Death For Räpe & Murder
Justice Bassey Nkanang, the presiding judge, condemned Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for the räpe and murder of Iniubong Umoren on Thursday after hearing the case for more than two hours.
You might remember that Umoren, a philosophy graduate from the University of Uyo, passed away in April 2021. While awaiting mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, she was looking for a job.
Uduak admitted to the crime and said he would be willing to die if proven guilty, but he then changed his story. Frank Akpan, Akpan’ s father, and Anwan Bassey, Akpan’ s sister, were released and found not guilty.
Uduak attempted to flee after being given a death by hanging sentence by the court for räpe and murder, but was swiftly caught by five uniformed men as the policemen carrying him out of the court grounds had already cocked their weapons in preparation to shoot him.
