The agitation has become part of Nigeria as difference group keeps agitating on daily basis depending on their need at that time and the reason for such need.
Recently, we have seen different groups protesting. Some protest seeking good governance while some protest for secession which can be termed as Agitation.
The major agitators in Nigeria presently are the Indigenous People Of BIAFRA IPOB and the Yoruba Nation’ s agitators led by Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho respectively.
These two major agitators and their groups have passed through some hurdles in the hand of the NIGERIA government as the government stands firm and declares zero tolerance on secession, and as such, the two separatists are presently in different custody facing different charges.
After Sheikh Gumi’ s Visit, Yoruba Nation Supporters Stormed Igboho Town For New Agitations.
Activists for the Yoruba Nation and supporters of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, planned and resumed their protest in Igboho town, Oyo State, on Saturday (today) according to Sahara Reporters.
This gathering comes only days after Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, visited the Oyo State town and confirmed herders grazing, a move denounced by Yoruba elder statesmen such as the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adams.
Gumi’ s visit to the Igboho community had been labeled as provocative and drumming up problems by Adams and others.
Supporters of the Yoruba Nation held a rally on Saturday to show solidarity and support for Sunday Igboho, who is now detained in Cotonou.
In a webcast on Saturday, Sunday Igboho’ s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, revealed that the gathering would be held in Igboho town, the hometown of his besieged principal. Aladikun complex in Modeke, Igboho, Oyo State is where Igboho hails from.
The 48- year- old agitator was originally apprehended at the Brigade économique et financière (BEF) and is now being held at Cotonou Civil Prison.
The Cour De’ appal De Cotonou, in its most recent ruling, ruled that Igboho be held in prison detention.
” Yoruba Nation Rally will take place in the town of our Father, Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho Oosa, Date: September 11th, 2021, Time: 10: 00 am, ” Koiki added that Gbogbo Omo Yoruba Agbaye is expected to be the host.
Ahmad Gumi Visits To Sunday Igboho’ s Home Town
Sheik Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic preacher from Kaduna State, paid a visit to Igboho, Oyo State, the hometown of Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.
Adeyemo was detained in Cotonou, Benin Republic, roughly 20 days after his Ibadan residence was invaded by Department of State Services (DSS) operatives as he was ready to go to Germany with his wife.
Igboho, who campaigned for the formation of a Yoruba nation, has been accused of separatist tendencies and has been pursued by security forces.
Gumi was spotted in Igboho town with Prof Usman Yusuf, the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Gumi and Yusuf were seen standing in front of a Muslim Grammar school signboard in Modeke- Igboho in a video obtained by SaharaReporters.
Gumi stated that he has seen no reason for people to advocate for their separation from Nigeria.
” Today we went to this town called Igboho, which is a Muslim community with cattle roaming in their courtyards.
” This is a place where I believe Nigerians must realize that we must live together because I have seen nothing here to justify people agitating to be split from our dear country, Nigeria, ” the bishop stated.
Yusuf went on to say that it was the elites, not the regular people, who were splitting Nigeria, noting that the common people are all the same.
” This is Igboho, made popular in the Benin Republic by an inmate. Nigeria is one country, and it will always be one. You can see churches, mosques, Fulanis, and Yorubas all coming together in the cities we’ ve visited, including Ilesha.
” This is the Nigeria in which we grew up, not poisoned Nigeria. The elites, not the common people, are splitting Nigeria; the regular people are all the same. We are Nigerians, and we shall always be Nigerians” , he stated.
Yoruba Self- determination Group Decry Ahmad Gumi’ s Visit To Igboho, Says, He Has An Hidden Agenda
Sheik Ahmad Gumi was chastised by the Coalition of Yoruba Self- Determination Groups for visiting Igboho town in Oyo State last weekend.
The coalition’ s Secretary- General, Dr. Steve Abioye, stated in a statement to The Guardian that the visit had a hidden objective and ulterior intent.
The divide- and- rule strategy, according to Abioye, will not succeed in Yoruba land this time.
” The Coalition of Yoruba Self- Determination Groups wishes to clarify unequivocally that Gumi’ s visit to Igboho town was laced with a hidden motive, and the people would not be led away by it. Gumi is planning something.
” He’ s just acting like a typical Fulani man with a lot of secrets. The Fulani man is a master of deception. Their excursion to Igboho had a hidden agenda.
” They want to seem nice now that Buhari’ s term is drawing to an end so that they can either get a soft landing or pave the ground for another Fulani President. It is not going to happen. That is something we, the Yoruba, will never accept” , Abioye stated.
What do you think is Ahmad Gumi’ s intention over his visit to Igboho?
