The Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for Edo South Senatorial District, Dr Ese Owie Thursday formally flagged off his Senatorial Campaign with Visits to Party Leaders and Members in Egor and Oredo LGAs. In his speech, he enumerated five critical areas of policy interventions as key priorities for his developmental agenda for Edo South. These include polices that would leapfrog educational advancement, cutting-edge health care, Sustainable infrastructure, state aid and agriculture.
He stated that Edo South as the epicentre of regional integration in the Midwestern part of Nigeria deserves impactful representation in the Red Chambers. He went further to say that a Legislator has essentially three core functions, the first being his or her interrogation of the budgetting process by way of scrutinizing the Appropriation Bills presented by the Executive, the second being Legislature rule-making by way of enacting laws and subsidiary legislation and the third – and by far the most important – being oversight of Executive actions so as to ensure that they are in conformity with extant laws. The latter, in his view, is at the core of the doctrine of separation of powers.
Dr Owie highlighted the key infrastructural projects that he shall, by the Grace of the Almighty, expeditiously galvanize Federal government funding for their fruition to include the completion of Phase 2 of the Benin Outer Ring Road otherwise known as the bypass, the completion of the Benin Ekpoma Auchi Lokoja Abuja road, as well as the completion of the Benin – Sakponba – Abraka road, amongst others. Another focus of his infrastructure developmental agenda is the strengthening of Legal, institutional and Governance framework of the power sector privatisation reform. In his view, the resolution of the current impasse amongst the power sector stakeholders in Edo -, the consumers, State Government and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) can only be acheived by the overhaul of the enabling statutes that set up the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (NERC) and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) so that they can efficiently and effectively perform their regulatory functions.
Earlier at the occasion, the Chairman of the Party in the State, Hon Gabriel Oloruntobi welcomed members and supporters present and urged them to remain steadfast in their quest to liberate the State.
Present at the Campaign Visits were the State Working Committee of the Party, The Chairman of the State Contact Committee, Hon Ogunsuyi, the Team Lead of Dr Owie’s Campaign Organization christened “Team Impact ’19” and all the candidates of the Party for the 4 House of Representatives and 10 House of Assembly seats within the senatorial district
